Production Diary

Production diary

Day one

After pre-production was complete we started day one of filming. during day one we completed three shots that involved the woods behind college. Each shot was slightly different and day one was an experiment of camera movements and camera positioning, this gave us an idea for the other shoots.

Day two

During day two we edited the footage we captured on day one this gave us an idea of the lighting and editing we would use during the short film. We couldn't shoot anymore that day because of the locations. so we experimented with the colours and fades for the three shots we filmed the day before.

Day Three

After editing a few clips from day one's shoot we decided to find some music to fit with each of our clips and see what song would work better for the short documentary, after finding different genres of music we chose a relaxed song 'bad day' this really lifted the emotion of our short film.

Day Four

After finding the music we used day four to record Sebastian's voice, this took many attempts as we didn't exactly know what concept of depression to talk about so we played around with a few ideas, eventually after some thought we came up with our voice over.

Day Five

Day five was used to upload the voice over to our unfinished edit, this gave us a clearer idea to whether the music would fit with the voice over and if they both worked well with the shots. During the evening of day five the time lapse sun set shot was filmed this took a lot of preparation because the weather had to be appropriate to film in.

Day six

During the day we edited the time lapse and added it to our unfinished edit on premiere pro, this took a lot of time due to the amount of imaged the time lapse had taken and figuring out how to speed up the time lapse so it ran smoothly. During the evening the boken shots of Caister by-pass was filmed and the filming in Lingwood was also completed. This was the last of our filming.

Day seven

This was our deadline day, and everything was almost complete. During the morning lesson we collected the drone footage from Mark Dudley and importing the footage from yesterdays shoots. After everything was imported into premiere pro, we continued to edit each shot. During the afternoon we worked on the title and credit sequence this took slightly longer than expected but learning how to use adobe after effects was great! After creating the title and credit sequence we touched up a few minor details and exported the footage.
