Connotations Photo Exercise - DSLR

Love

In this Image we Structured the Mise-en-scene by using the dandelion to connote happiness and the couple to connote the love. This shot type is a low angled long shot. By having the camera at this particular angle it creates the power and bond between the couple. After adjusting the shot type we decided as a group to make the dandelion our main focal point this gives the image brightness and making the couple blurred gives a sense of the importance of the dandelion.

Strength

In this photograph we Created a sense of power and strength. This shot is taken at a low angled position with a slight canted feel. Having the camera this low to the ground but pointing up to meet the eye line creates the strength we were aiming for. Not only does the camera angle make our idea of strength work, but the body stance and the colour of his clothing makes his image seem stronger. For this we used a very ISO with a longer shutter speed This infers that even though we had a lack of lighting the picture was clear and focused.

Poverty

With this photograph we used a high angled shot to show the weakness and emotion of the body language that Max has created. We used the bin as a prop this gave a more realistic feel to the meaning of poverty. I love the way the bin is position in front but slightly to the left of Max showing that the bin is slightly more important than Max.

Fear

In this photograph the camera is angled as an over the shoulder shot this helps to establish the position of each person, and get the feel of looking at one person from the other's point of view. usually this shot is used when two people are involved in a conversation but with this shot we aimed to have the camera behind the puncher at a slight high angle so we could see the fear and the weakness in Max's face but still the punch about to happen. I feel this has created a realistic image for the emotion fear.

Loneliness

For this image we really wanted to capture the emotion through the camera angle. For this shot we used a long angled shot this captured more of the surrounding area. We position max so he was slightly off center this inferred that Max was simply not the main focal point but simply something that just happened to be there.

Wealth

This image was taken from a slightly low angled view, the reason for taking the shot slightly lower was to create Toby's power. This shot was created by using a very high shutter speed. The only down fall is that the shot is slightly out of focus but i now know how to correct this.

Friendship

this was taken using a long shot to show the full body of each person. In this image you can clearly state three friends walking but that was not the concept of this image it was to show the emotion through the body stance of each individual that builds up there relationship. Also i really like the shadow that builds from each person.

 Desire

In our group we decided that for desire we would show the a diagonal angle from the camera to the object that was desired. This was a very simple shot with a slight canted angle to show weirdness between himself and the McDonald's drink.

Greed

this shot again was very simple on the right we have Toby who is position to be just leaning over the shoulder to show that he is slightly jealous. where as on the left the notes simply infer that he is greedy with his money. I really liked the lighting in this the yellow fit really well with the black clothing. This is a medium shot.

Purity

For this shot we used a very high angle, almost worm shot. this created a sense of empowerment. The main focal point in this image is the suns beam this creates the purity and freedom that we aimed to achieve for this image.

Weakness

When creating the positions for this image i really liked the fact tat max was in fact the blurred stating that actually he wasn't the main focal point but the strongest character who we just see of the shoulder is in focus because he is powerful where as max is weakend. This type of shot is a shallow depth of field.

Danger

The last image we took was danger, For danger we used a flame as our main focal point. All though this photo doesn't look dangerous the concept was that fire is a danger to all.
